Directions: Take I-70 to the Lookout Mountain exit (exit 256). Take U.S. 40 west 3.5 miles to Lookout Mountain Road; go east (right) on Lookout Mountain Road/Lariat Loop 4.4 miles. The trailhead and parking area are well-marked.

The relatively level trail winds above Clear Creek Canyon for about seven miles -- depending on time and commitment, you can do as much of it as you like. Look to the sky -- it's not uncommon to see hawks and eagles riding the thermals. Look to the west, where the Continental Divide thrusts skyward. Look below, at the silver thread of Clear Creek as it winds through the steep canyon it has carved.
